CARY, N.C. — The NYIT baseball team scored a regional win on Saturday at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

DJ Masuck tossed three scoreless relief innings and earned the win and Dominic Paolo's sacrifice fly plated Jake Lebel with the tiebreaking run in the sixth as NYIT beat Dominican (N.Y.), 4-2.

The Bears then suffered a 7-4 loss to Findlay in Game 2 on Saturday.

Against Dominican, Alex Passarella allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out six in five innings in his first collegiate start. Paolo went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, while fellow freshman Joseph Kelly went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Nick Vitale also recorded two hits.

Against Findlay, NYIT trailed 3-0 in the fourth when Ryan Kuskowski got the Bears on the scoreboard with an RBI single. Nick Tedesco and Joey Fusco followed with consecutive RBI doubles to even the score.

However, Findlay answered with two runs in the fifth against NYIT starter Christopher Miller, with the scores coming on a bases-loaded walk, then a passed ball.

EJ Cumbo, Ben McNeill and Paolo had two hits apiece for the Bears (1-3-1) in Game 2.
