NYIT Athletics announces staff departures

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — A pair of head coaches have departed the NYIT Athletics program.

Baseball coach Bob Malvagna and softball coach Steve Christianson have left the department, director of intercollegiate athletics and recreation Dan Vélez announced Thursday.

Additionally, baseball assistant coaches Al Sontag and Vinny Rubino also are departing.

Malvagna had led the baseball program for six seasons, while Christianson led the softball program for 12 seasons.

Vélez plans searches to fill both head-coaching roles.

"We thank Bob and Steve for their service a dedication to the student-athletes of NYIT," Vélez said. "I know that I speak for the entire department in wishing them the best of luck in their future endeavors. Bob and Steve made great impacts on the baseball and softball programs, not only on the field, but also in the classroom and community."
