Jake Lebel off to hot start after joining New Hampshire summer-league team

NASHUA, N.H. — NYIT first baseman Jake Lebel has joined the Nashua Silver Knights of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League of New England.

Lebel, who hails from neighboring Maine, officially signed with the New Hampshire-based summer-league team on June 19. He since is hitting .440 (11-for-25) with one homer and 11 RBIs in eight games.

"So far I've started off hitting hot," Lebel said.

The Silver Knights' roster includes a sizable number of Division I players, including student-athletes from Boston College, St. John's, Texas, Houston, Tulane, UMass, Hartford, Northeastern and Virginia Tech.

The league also includes Lebel's NYIT teammate, Joseph Pesce, who is playing for the Worcester Bravehearts. Pesce is hitting .292 (19-for-65) with eight RBIs through 18 games.

NYIT student-athletes primarily compete on Long Island during the summer, in the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball and Long Island Collegiate Baseball leagues.

The 6-foot-5 Lebel, a rising senior, hit .272 (34-for-125) with three homers, 20 RBIs and a .361 on-base percentage in 34 games this past spring for the Bears.

Lebel was tabbed East Coast Conference Player of the Week on April 2 after slugging three homers in a two-game span against LIU Post. He also posted a stellar 3.63 GPA for the 2017-18 academic year.
