Andre Edwards completed his second season with the NYIT men's basketball staff in 2017-18.
He formerly served as head varsity basketball coach at St. John the Baptist in West Islip, earning top-10 rankings on Long Island all three seasons at the helm. Edwards won a Long Island Catholic League championship in 2011-12, coached two 1,000-point scorers and sent three student-athletes to colleges on basketball scholarships during his tenure with the program.
He also has experience as a head coach at his alma mater, Wyandanch Memorial High School. His tenure there included earning the 2010 Suffolk County Class B championship.
Notable players coached by Edwards include Kenny Jones (Kentucky State), Darren Smith (Penn), Christian Vital (UConn), Marquis Jones (Rhode Island), CJ Davis (Columbia), Kyle Williams (Grambling/District of Columbia), JJ Moore (Pittsburgh/Rutgers) and Scotty McCrae (Albany).
Edwards was a member of the U.S. Air Force and Reserves from 1992 through 2000, serving as a financial management specialist and firefighter.
Edwards played college basketball at Onondaga Community College, then redshirted for a season at Saint Francis-Brooklyn.
He resides in Deer Park and also works as a teacher's assistant in the Wyandanch School District. He and wife Rhonda have three children, Riahna, Andre II and Aidan.
