OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — NYIT men's lacrosse has added a pair of new assistant coaches for the 2018 season — Mike Rooney and Mike Cama.

Rooney appeared for the Major League Lacrosse-champion Ohio Machine in 2017, including tallying a hat trick against the Charlotte Hounds.

Cama previously played and coached at LIU Post. He is a former two-time USILA Specialty Player of the Year and first-team All-American and led the nation in face-off win percentage as a senior in 2009 (.685). He is a product of Island Trees High School in Levittown.

Rooney also has been a practice-squad player for the New York Lizards. He previously starred as an attacker at Stony Brook University.

Rooney graduated as the program's all-time leader in assists (121) and points (253), and also owns the school's single-season records in those categories (63 assists, 111 points). He is one of two players in Stony Brook history to reach triple-figures in career goals and assists. Rooney was named an All-American and first-team All-America East Conference as a senior and previously had been named the conference's Rookie of the Year.

He graduated from Stony Brook in 2015 with a degree in health sciences.

Rooney resides in East Islip. He also has worked with Dynamic Sports Management and has coached travel lacrosse programs.

"NYIT has made a lot of history within the lacrosse community, and I am excited to help the program the way best I can to become part of that tradition," Rooney said.
