OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — Coach Bill Dunn has selected seniors Tom Brennan, Matt Chanenchuk and Ian Prate as the captains for NYIT's 2018 men's lacrosse team.

"Matt has really shown quarterback skills on the offensive end of the field," Dunn said. "He's more the captain on that end. He's done it by example, and he's been here the longest out of anybody. Ian is the leader in the center of the field with the midfielders. He's really grown into that spot. And then Tommy Brennan, although he hasn't logged a lot of time with us, has really picked up things from our captains in the past and has become a strong leader for us. He'll be helping us out on the defensive end of the field."

The Bears open their season on Feb. 10 at President's Stadium against Mercyhurst.

NYIT is ranked sixth in the Nike/US Lacrosse Division II preseason poll, which was released Thursday.

Brennan appeared in 16 games last season and started nine. He collected 19 ground balls and caused 18 turnovers.

Chanenchuk earned USILA second-team All-America honors and was named first-team All-ECC and ECAC in 2017. He led the ECC with 35 assists and ranked second in points with 62, trailing only St. Thomas Aquinas' Briele Caples.

Prate earned USILA first-team All-America and Division II Long Pole Midfielder of the Year honors last season.
