OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — Seniors Carlos Coto and Jonathan Rico will captain the NYIT men's soccer team for a third straight season in 2017, coach Carlos Delcid announced Tuesday.

Coto, a midfielder from Costa Rica, was limited to six matches (five starts) last season due to a toe injury. He had been named third-team All-East Coast Conference in 2015. Coto has appeared in 42 career matches for the Bears (35 starts).

Rico, a goalkeeper from Elmhurst in Queens, was a third-team All-ECC selection last season. He produced seven shutouts in 2016, which ranked one shy of the league lead. For his career, Rico has produced 13 shutouts, which is four shy of matching the program record owned by Liam Waddy and Matt Burke (17 apiece). Rico owns a 1.11 career goals against average. He trained with the Long Island Rough Riders this summer, appearing in one match.

The Bears open their 2017 season on Aug. 31 with a home match against Concordia (N.Y.) at 4 p.m.

NYIT posted a 10-4-4 overall record and went 5-2-2 in the ECC in 2016.
