Former NYIT soccer standout Vinny Caccavale re-signs with Australian pro team

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — Former NYIT men's soccer standout Vinny Caccavale has re-signed with the Blacktown Spartans in Greater Western Sydney in Australia.

The club plays in the National Premier League's New South Wales Division Two men's league. The Spartans open their season on March 4.

Caccavale appeared in seven matches with the club last season — his first as a professional.

Caccavale's 64 career points at NYIT, achieved from 2010 through 2013, rank fifth in program history. He is second all time in assists with 22, trailing only Clitos Papadopoulous' 35 in the early 1980s.

A midfielder, Caccavale became NYIT's first two-time NSCAA All-American and two-time NSCAA Scholar All-American.

After graduating from NYIT in 2014 with a degree in communication arts, Caccavale coached soccer in the D.C. area with the Bethesda Soccer Club and The Player Progression Academy. He also coached current NYIT freshman goalkeeper Nilxon Ventura at St. John's College High School.

Caccavale then became engaged and moved to South Africa before again relocating to Australia.

He originally hails from West Islip.
