The Bears enter the season with two new captains. Coach Carlos Delcid recently selected senior midfielders Dan Lembo and Martin Sundell to lead the squad.
Lembo appeared in all 19 matches for NYIT in 2017, tallying two goals and one assist. That production included the late game-winner in an eventual 3-1 victory against Concordia (N.Y.) in the Aug. 31, 2017, season opener.
Sundell, who hails from Sweden, also appeared in all 19 matches a season ago as a junior. He tallied three goals and two assists.
The Bears also restocked with plenty of talent. The not-yet-completed recruiting class includes student-athletes from four countries — South Africa (Ofentse Kwenaite, Nkululeko Mkhonto), Spain (Alejandro Izaga, Nuno Mecia Lopez), Trinidad & Tobago (Matthaeus Granger, Che Richards) and the United States (Rexhep Dalipi, John Gamble, Wilber Gomez, Salvador Jimenez).
