FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. — NYIT seniors Matej Selecky and Lena Dimmer have been awarded the No. 1 seeds in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships, which begin on Friday with qualifying and the opening round of doubles play at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

For the men, Francisco Caldas received the No. 11 seed and Rares Ispas received the No. 12 seed.

For the women, Ivana Andric is the No. 11 seed.

Competing in qualifying on Friday are Maxton Cook, Kevin Huynh, Jean Kehyayan and Alexandre Martinez for the men and Antonella Lopez Alcerro for the women.

Selecky returns to action after redshirting last season with a torn ligament in his right wrist. He had been ranked ninth nationally and first regionally by the ITA last November. Before getting shut down last year, Selecky won the ITA Regional Championships, topping teammate Rafal Charkiewicz in the finals.

Dimmer is the East Coast Conference Preseason Player of the Year. She is off to a 3-0 start to this season for the Bears while playing second singles.

"It's been a year that's been quite a long time, but I'm very excited to be among the team again with all of my friends," Selecky said. "This is not going to be a team event, but it will be great to play side by side with my friends, and representing the school of course."
