OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — The NYIT tennis teams have each reached five straight NCAA Sweet 16s. To celebrate their latest trip in May, both 2016-17 squads were honored during halftime of Monday's men's basketball game against Adelphi at Recreation Hall.

Director of athletics Dan Vélez presented rings to members of both teams as well as coach Owen Kassimir and trainer Christine Barcavage.

Even recent graduates such as Jaime Salvador returned to campus for the ceremony.

More hardware is owed, too.

This past fall, the women's team won its sixth straight East Coast Conference title, avenging a regular-season defeat to host and top-seeded Queens in the finals. As a result, the Bears already have earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships in the spring.

The men's team plays the bulk of its schedule in the spring, beginning March 2 at Southern New Hampshire.
