Women's basketball's Nina Vukosavljevic selected ECC Player of Week

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — Nina Vukosavljevic's performance this past week helped the NYIT women's basketball team clinch its seventh straight trip to the East Coast Conference tournament. It also earned Vukosavljevic the league's Player of the Week honor on Monday.

Vukosavljevic, a senior point guard from Belgrade, Serbia, tallied 24 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals in last Wednesday's 60-52 win against Queens. She then contributed eight points, six rebounds, five assists and one steal in a 57-43 win at Molloy on Saturday.

Vukosavljevic's 7.0 assists per game this season rank second in Division II.

NYIT (15-9, 9-5 ECC) returns to action Wednesday with a stiff test at first-place St. Thomas Aquinas (22-3, 14-1). The Spartans lead LIU Post by a half-game for the ECC's top spot.

Four games begin in the regular season.

NYIT currently occupies fourth place in the ECC. If the Bears can maintain that position, they would host the No. 5 seed, likely Daemen or Queens, on Feb. 28 in an opening-round game before the ECC tournament shifts to Roberts Wesleyan for the semifinals and finals.
