OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — NYIT women's lacrosse attacker Alyssa Milano has been named a first-team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Milano, a Holbrook native who recently completed her junior season, boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA as a business administration major between Dowling College and NYIT.
Also a first-team All-East Coast Conference selection, Milano produced a team-leading 58 goals as well as nine assists in 17 games before suffering a season-ending knee injury in the closing minutes of the regular-season finale at LIU Post. Milano already had scored four goals that day, helping the Bears to force overtime in the game that decided the ECC regular-season championship.
NYIT has now produced a CoSIDA first-team Academic All-American in consecutive years. Kat Zabielski of the softball team received the honor as a senior in 2016.
Milano scored six goals on six shots in the first-ever women's lacrosse game in NYIT history, a 12-7 win at Georgian Court on Feb. 25. She also broke an 11-all tie with a goal with 8:11 remaining to lift the Bears to 13-11 win at previously unbeaten Mercy on April 4.
NYIT launched its women's lacrosse program this season after Dowling ceased operations. Milano is one of 14 former Dowling players to join the Bears.
