Women's lacrosse ranked 13th in Division II in IWLCA preseason poll

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — The NYIT women's lacrosse team is ranked 13th in Division II in the preseason poll released Monday by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association.

That comes on the heels of a No. 10 ranking in the US Lacrosse preseason poll revealed last week.

NYIT, of course, was not your typical expansion team in 2017. With an influx of talent from Dowling College, the Bears came within an overtime goal at LIU Post of winning the East Coast Conference's regular-season title last year. They earned an NCAA Tournament berth in their inaugural season and received major media attention from the likes of The New York Times, CBS, ABC, News 12 and Newsday.

The Bears are picked third in the ECC in this year's preseason coaches poll.

They open their season at President's Stadium on Feb. 28 against Georgian Court.

Meanwhile, Adelphi received 24 of 25 first-place votes and is ranked first in the IWLCA Division II preseason poll.

Two other ECC programs appear in the poll — LIU Post at No. 5 and Mercy at No. 12. Additionally, Molloy received votes but did not crack the top 25.

NYIT actually tied for 13th with Limestone in the poll with 340 points apiece.
