OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — Goalkeeper Jessie Sabal had a phenomenal effort, including coming within one save of matching her career high, but the NYIT women's soccer team dropped its East Coast Conference opener Saturday.

Mercy forward Haley Noble broke a scoreless tie 90 seconds into the second half and Mercy went on to a 3-0 win against the Bears at President's Stadium.

The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for NYIT (2-4, 0-1 ECC).

Mercy (6-1, 1-0) has won the last five meetings between the teams, although NYIT still leads the all-time series, 11-7.

Sabal made eight saves. Her career high is nine, which she established last season against Bridgeport.

NYIT was outshot 18-3 and did not record a shot on goal.

The Bears are back in action Wednesday at 3 p.m. at President's Stadium for a nonconference matchup against Bloomfield.
