Selecky, Dimmer, Andric all advance to ITA Regional semis; Dimmer-Rossetti duo reaches doubles final

FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. — NYIT tennis heads into the final day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships with a chance to capture both singles titles as well as women's doubles.

Men's singles top seed Matej Selecky won a pair of matches in straight sets on Sunday at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, against Concordia's William Nilsson (6-4, 6-2) and Queens' Roman Laga (6-2, 6-2), to advance to Monday's semifinals. Women's singles top seed Lena Dimmer also reached Monday's semifinals with a pair of straight-set wins on Sunday, against Stonehill's Isabelle Porter (6-4, 6-0) and Goldey-Beacom's Catarina Zheng (6-4, 6-2).

Dimmer will face NYIT teammate Ivana Andric in the semifinals. Andric, the No. 11 women's seed, advanced after a pair of epic matches Sunday in which she prevailed 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) against Concordia's Siri Victorsson and 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 against Queens' Reehan Rashad.

And the women's doubles pairing of Dimmer and Alessia Rossetti has reached Monday's doubles finals after posting wins against duos from USciences (8-1) and Stonehill (8-2) on Sunday.

A pair of NYIT men's singles players were eliminated Sunday. Rares Ispas lost in the Round of 16 to Concordia's Alessandro Evangelisti, 6-2, 6-0. And Francisco Caldas lost 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-8, in the quarterfinals to Concordia's Eymeric Chevalier.
