NYIT tops Stonehill, Holy Family to improve to 9-1

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — The NYIT volleyball team is surging into East Coast Conference play.

The Bears posted a pair of straight-set wins Saturday, topping Stonehill, 25-19, 25-12, 25-23, and Holy Family, 25-16, 25-13, 25-11.

NYIT now owns a 9-1 record as it enters its league opener on Tuesday at Queens.

In Saturday's early win against Stonehill, Tiffany Verni had a team-high 15 kills, followed by Karolina Moderova with 12. Allison Fowler had 34 assists and Portia McIntosh had 22 digs.

In the match against Holy Family, Karolina Moderova had 14 kills, followed by Fowler with 10.

"It's a great accomplishment," libero Chessie Santeramo said about the 9-1 start. "As a team, we played together. We followed each other on defense. Our front row did its job in blocking, and all around we played well together."
