OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — And in the semifinals of the East Coast Conference Championships, the NYIT volleyball team will face … the LIU Post Pioneers in Rockville Centre.
That matchup was locked in Sunday when Molloy claimed the top seed with a three-set win against Daemen.
Molloy and LIU Post both finished at 12-2 in the ECC, but the Lions swept the season series to earn the tiebreaker.
So No. 1 seed and host Molloy faces No. 4 seed Bridgeport on Friday at 5 p.m., followed by No. 2 seed LIU Post and No. 3 seed NYIT squaring off at 7:30 p.m.
The Pioneers swept NYIT in the home-and-home series during the regular season, although both matches went five sets. In the more recent matchup, on Oct. 28 at LIU Post, Tiffany Verni had 28 kills and Karolina Moderova had 17 kills and 29 digs.
The Bears went 10-4 in the ECC, while Bridgeport went 8-6 to edge Daemen (7-7) for the final spot.
Earlier on Friday, the ECC annual awards will be announced, with Moderova a strong candidate for Player of the Year.
"We are excited to be going in to the playoffs coming off some recent strong wins," coach Gail Wasmus said. "It is always a great match versus LIU Post, and we are expecting the same in the playoffs. We are playing some of our best volleyball now and hope we take that into the postseason."
