Tiffany Verni named ECC Player of Week as league playoffs loom

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — As the NYIT volleyball team prepares for Friday's East Coast Conference Championships semifinal showdown against LIU Post in Rockville Centre, Tiffany Verni has claimed the league's final top weekly honor of 2017.

Verni was named ECC Player of the Week on Monday after NYIT completed its regular season with a 24-7 overall record by defeating Mercy, Bridgeport and Post.

Verni had a combined 45 kills and 17 digs in the three matches as the Bears solidified the No. 3 seed in the league playoffs.

Verni's teammate, Allison Fowler, was named to the league's weekly honor roll.

Also appearing on the ECC's weekly honor roll: men's basketball forward Jeffrey Hayden and women's basketball guard Nina Vukosavljevic.

Hayden had a combined 58 points on 21-for-27 shooting from the field as the men's basketball team defeated host Wilmington (Del.) and lost to USciences in the season-opening CACC/ECC Challenge.

Vukosavljevic became the seventh documented member of NYIT women's basketball's 1,000-point club with her first field goal in Saturday's regular-season opener against Pace. She finished with 20 points in that loss. Vukosavljevic then contributed 18 points in a 55-54 buzzer-beating win against Adelphi on Day 2 of the ECC/NE-10 Challenge.
