Volleyball awarded No. 4 seed, will face Southern Connecticut State in NCAA tourney's opening round

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — The NYIT volleyball team is headed to the NCAA Tournament for a third straight season. And the Bears will face a familiar opening-round opponent.

Fourth-seeded NYIT will face fifth-seeded Southern Connecticut State in a first-round matchup in the East Regional on Nov. 30.

That's a rematch of a Sept. 30 matchup, which the Owls won in five sets in Connecticut.

New Haven, the No. 1 seed, will host the upcoming regional. NYIT split two matches with the Chargers during the regular season.

The Bears enter the tournament with a 25-8 record and plenty of motivation after losing to Molloy in five sets in the East Coast Conference finals on Saturday in Rockville Centre.

NYIT boasts three first-team All-ECC selections — outside hitters Karolina Moderova and Tiffany Verni and three-time ECC Setter of the Year Allison Fowler.
