OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — The NYIT volleyball team will be back in action in only seven weeks.
The Bears open their 2018 season against host Kutztown on Aug. 23, at 7 p.m. NYIT then will remain at the Pennsylvania school for matches against Goldey-Beacom and Salem International the following day.
NYIT, which earned its third straight NCAA Tournament berth and came within one set of the East Coast Conference title a season ago, returns to Recreation Hall for its home opener Sept. 1. The Bears host Nyack and Assumption that day, then Bloomfield and Saint Rose on Sept. 2.
ECC play begins Sept. 12 with the Battle of the Boulevard at LIU Post.

The Bears completed the 2017 season with a 25-9 record, including 10-4 in ECC play.
Coach Gail Wasmus enters her 33rd season as head coach of the volleyball program. With a 625-410 career record at the helm, she ranks among the top 10 in victories among active Division II coaches.
Seniors Samantha Degaray, Paige Trakas and Tiffany Verni will captain the 2018 squad. Degaray, a defensive specialist, appeared in all 34 matches and produced 229 digs last season. Trakas, a middle blocker and right-side hitter, had 155 kills and 31 digs. Verni, an outside hitter, earned American Volleyball Coaches Association first-team All-East Region and first-team All-ECC honors a year ago. She currently ranks fifth in program history with 1,005 career kills.
